Occupational Therapy Summer Activities
Summertime is fast approaching & here are some fun & practical activities that your child can do with you, their friends or siblings during their summer break every week! If done consistently, these activities should help your child retain the skills that they have worked so hard on in Occupational Therapy this year.
· Complete craft projects especially tasks that include cutting, coloring, pasting, painting, building, or drawing
· Let your child help with chores every week-put laundry in or take out of washer/dryer, matching/sorting socks, fold pillowcases, washcloths, and towels in half, make up the bed, put up groceries & laundry, vacuum, empty trash cans, water plants, or pick up litter in the neighborhood
· Help cook with adult supervision-spread butter, make a sandwich, tear lettuce & soft foods in half, pour ingredients, open & close jars, peel fruit, knead dough, help put ingredients on a pizza, and/or make a bowl of cereal
· Let child use sidewalk chalk to draw pictures/letters/shapes/numbers on the driveway
· Use paint, markers, crayons, pens, and pencils to practice writing numbers/shapes/letters on paper
· Put shave cream, sand, or rice on a baking sheet & have child practice writing letters on the pan
· Play card games (Uno, Phase 10 for kids, Old Maid, Go Fish)
· Have a dancing contest or play Simon Says
· Play Legos or board games, and play with puzzles
· Go to the park, swimming, or hiking
· Water play using water blasters, water balloons, or squirt bottles
· Play catch, football, frisbee, or volleyball
· Use play doh to make letters, shapes, or objects
Feel free to switch it up, be creative, and let your child choose activities. Most of all, have a fun and awesome summer!!
